Laura Halick

Laura Halick is with us for a twentieth year at Center Stage.  She is our vocal coach, our non competition drama/musical theatre instructor and  also works with our competition musical theatre teams on vocals. Mrs Halick also runs her own private voice studio, thriving with children, teenagers and adults who come from all over northern Virginia—from Chantilly to Alexandria to Springfield. Certified in Levels 1, 2 & 3 of Somatic Voiceworks,™ the LoVetri Method, Laura’s teaching methods include long-standing classical technique and recent advances in popular music technique. Her students sing arias, art songs, jazz, musical theater, and folk & popular songs.Through her private studio, she sponsors two recitals a year and coaches students for auditions to colleges, Governor’s School, District Chorus, All-State Chorus, and summer programs.

In addition to being recognized for excellence at singing competitions, many of her students sing in choirs and on stage in the DC Metro area. Her students have sung with summer programs at Viriginia’s Governor’s School, The Washington Opera Summer Institute, Shenandoah Conservatory, Boston University, The Theater Lab of DC, and the Fairfax Institute of the Arts. A few have chosen to pursue music and acting in college—at Syracuse University, Ithaca College, University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Emerson College and Northwestern University. In 2010 three of Laura’s students were recognized at the Cappie Gala: one for Leading Actress in a Play, one for Best Song, and one for Best Critic Team.

Ms. Halick graduated from The Catholic University of America’s master of music program in vocal performance. A full lyric soprano, Laura is an active member in three vocal associations: the National Association of Teachers of Singing, the Northern Virginia Music Teachers Association, and the Somatic Voiceworks© Alumni Group.
