WELCOMING OUR NEW INSTRUCTORS
Karine Stanger Myers will be teaching some of our children's classes in tap and jazz. Karine was a member of the Center Stage Dance Company while in high school and taught for Center Stage while in high school and after her graduation from college. Karine is now the Principal of Ballenger Creek Elementary School in Frederick, MD. We're thrilled to have Karine back on the staff again!
Charis Kullos began her professional Russian training in Florida at the Space Coast Ballet Academy. From 2006-2009 she attended and graduated from the Kirov Academy of Ballet, receiving a diploma for completing their Artistic Program. In 2009 she was accepted into the apprenticeship program at Tulsa Ballet where she danced roles in both Company and second Company productions. Charis has recently joined the Manassas Ballet Theater in Virginia and is looking forward to working with the students at Center Stage as their ballet instructor.
NEW VOCAL CLASSES AT CENTER STAGE
Voice & Audition Coaching Class is offered for students in 7th – 12th grades. Students will sign up to work with the teacher individually to prepare repertoire of interest to the student. The student will work primarily in learning to use his/her voice effectively for auditions—be they for stage productions or other auditions. Depending on the level of need, students may need to schedule private lessons with the teacher, especially when preparing for college level auditions. In addition to working on solo songs, students will learn what songs are appropriate for his/her voice and how to prepare an audition notebook. This class will be held at 4:15 on Mondays.
Children’s Voice Class is offered for boys and girls who want to learn some basic singing skills while learning fun repertoire. Eligible children must be in 2nd - 6th grades. Space is limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. Children who are not able to stay on pitch may need to work with the instructor privately for assessment and recommendations for alternate singing instruction. Each weekly class will be 45 minutes long and will have two parts. The first will be singing technique: correct posture, identifying accurate anatomy for singing, breathing technique, open throat breathing & singing and tone placement. All students will learn how to sing in both head and chest registers and learn to recognize those registers in others’ singing. Students will also learn about good vocal health. The second part will be learning repertoire. The songs will be age appropriate and intended for group singing, not solo singing, although the children may have solo lines within the songs. The focus of the class will not be on learning to read music, although children will be encouraged to do so. To encourage practice at home, songs will be identified on YouTube, and parents will be given links to find appropriate recordings online. When applicable, rehearsals before performances will be held at the studio with advance notice given. This class will be held at 5:15 on Mondays.
Both of the above classes will be taught by our vocal teacher, Laura Halick.

INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY
As a rule, Center Stage does NOT close for inclement weather when Fairfax County schools close. In case of inclement weather, please call the studio one (1) hour before your scheduled class time and the message will indicate if classes are cancelled. If you hear the regular message, classes will be held. An email will be sent to everyone at the studio who has registered their email with the Studio and this website will also be updated.
Our policy for cancelled classes due to inclement weather is as follows: a scheduled makeup time and date will be made by the teacher (at her convenience) of the cancelled class and the students informed. If a student cannot make the scheduled make up time, they are welcome to make up in any other scheduled class at Center Stage. Cash refunds or tuition credit will not be given for any class cancelled due to bad weather.
